Fifth Graders Look Ahead to the Middle School
February 2, 2026
In mid-December, Doherty and Lotspeich fifth graders visited the Middle School during the Fifth Grade Preview Day. Students met Head of Middle School James Jessup and administrative assistant to the head of Middle School Melissa Morelli who welcomed them and shared how excited they were to see them next year.
Afterwards, students walked to The Schiff Center and rotated between sitting in on a chorus rehearsal and an instrumental ensemble rehearsal. Middle and Upper School vocal music teacher Tina Kuhlman and Middle and Upper School instrumental music teacher John Rising talked to students about what their classes are like and what skills and techniques they might learn in Middle School.

Fifth graders also had the opportunity to visit multiple sixth grade classes inside the Middle School and experience them first hand.

One of the students’ favorite parts of the day was the multi-building scavenger hunt designed to help fifth graders familiarize themselves with places Middle Schoolers visit everyday. Members of the Middle School student council accompanied students and provided help as needed.
