Fifth Grade, Unit III Travels to Shawnee Lookout

November 4, 2025

In mid-October, Doherty Unit III and Lotspeich fifth grade students ventured to Shawnee Lookout in North Bend, Ohio.

While there, students hiked, threw javelins, and strengthened bonds with their classmates, all while learning about Miami Fort earthwork found in the park, which was built by the Adena and Hopewell cultures nearly 3,000 years ago.

Doherty Unit III students Henry and Ethan said their favorite parts of the trip were playing games and walking in the woods.

Lotspeich fifth graders Spencer and Emma said they loved learning how to throw javelins.

“It was fun to see how far they would go,” Emma said.

Both Lotspeich and Doherty students agreed they had fun learning while walking in nature and growing new and existing friendships with one another.
