Advanced Topics: Spanish Studies Happiness

October 6, 2025

From building pickleball courts to going on more field trips, students in Teresa Bardon’s advanced topics Spanish class presented their ideas on how to create happiness at Seven Hills to their classmates and Head of School Matt Bolton.

The students read about different formulas of happiness and studied ideas of happiness in other cultures, like the Danish concept of hygge. Through their research, they determined that there are biological, social, and psychological factors related to happiness. The students were tasked to use what they learned to come up with two feasible and attainable ideas to improve happiness at Seven Hills for students, faculty, and administration.

Ideas included more participation in school events, adding study rooms to the library, reducing the amount of homework from AP classes, and getting faster internet for the Upper School building.

Hygge Nothing New to Seven Hills

Hygge being a topic of the during the Spanish students’ study was not the first time it recent years it has graced the halls of Seven Hills. Last year, the Young Family Library was transformed to feature the Danish tradition. Hygge is about creating a warm atmosphere with people you care about and taking time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Besides a cozy fire in the library, students enjoyed quietly reading, crafting, journaling, and a warm beverage that complemented the cozy atmosphere.
