Spanish Students Create Their Own “Menina”
April 6, 2026
Students in Teresa Bardon’s advanced topics in Spanish class held an art exhibit for their own “Menina” artwork. After exploring the work of Diego Velázquez and his iconic masterpiece, “Las Meninas,” the students created their own inspired by the themes, values, and memories from their own lives.
The students recorded themselves explaining their pieces in English and Spanish and each piece hanging in the hallways of the Upper School has QR codes to the recordings for viewers to listen to.

“Seniors have been working incredibly hard — learning complex ideas, analyzing art and culture, and creating original work all in another language,” Bardon said. “I am tremendously proud of their dedication and creativity.”
