Science Olympiad Heads to State
April 6, 2026
After a stellar showing at the Southwest Regional Tournament in early March, the Science Olympiad team placed third and will compete in the state tournament on April 18.
The Ohio Science Olympiad is an academic, interscholastic competition designed to foster student interest in science and improve science education. Teams of up to 15 students compete in pairs or trios in 23 separate events that test their knowledge of a variety of topics, like anatomy and physiology, electric vehicles, entomology, and more.
Juniors Maya Little and Emma Hassell placed first in the designer gene event, where they answered questions, solved problems, and analyzed data pertaining to genetics.
Juniors Sakshum Vij and Jason Zhou placed second in chem lab, where they completed tasks and answered a series of questions involving the science processes of chemistry focused in the areas of chemical reactions/stoichiometry and kinetics.
Hassell and junior Lily Fraser placed second in forensics, where they were given a scenario and suspects and had to perform a series of tests.
Zhou and sophomore Mia Wang placed second in the helicopter event. Before the competition, they constructed, collected data on test flights, analyzed and optimized a free flight rubber-powered helicopter.
Congrats to all the students who competed at the regional competition and good luck at state!
