Middle School Award Highlights
March 10, 2025
Over the past several weeks, numerous Middle School students have showcased their incredible skills in different competitions. Below are some of the recent awards and accomplishments our students earned through their hard work, dedication, and talent.
Ohio Junior Thespian Conference
Sixth graders Sasha Rucker-Chang and Valentina Pietoso, seventh grader Joselyn Vincent, and eighth grader Conrad Riveiro were chosen to perform their pieces at the Best of Thespys program at the conclusion of the Ohio Junior Thespian Conference.

Vincent earned a double superior rating from her judges and qualified to move on to the International Thespian Festival competition in the Solo Musical Theatre category.
Seven Hills students also performed a one-act play, “I’m a Teenager Get Me Out of This Family” by Jim Garvey, to a standing ovation.
Scholastic Awards
The Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognized more than 100 Seven Hills Middle and Upper School students with 226 awards for their writing and artwork.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Competition is one of the nation’s oldest and largest student competitions; more than 50 schools competed in the Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Region.
Seven Hills students won 19 Gold Keys and 50 Silver Keys across various categories. Winning a Gold Key considers students for the national award, across all categories.
Eighth graders Sophia Liu and Angella Zong won art Gold Keys, and Liu also earned a Gold Key for writing.
MathCounts

The Middle School MathCounts team qualified for the state competition and is competing in Columbus on March 15.
OFMC Junior Composer contest
Seventh graders Kalkin Ban and Bobby Topalidis placed second and third, respectively, during the 2025 OFMC Junior Composer contest hosted by the Oregon Federation of Music Clubs. Ban’s composition was titled “Airport Sprint,” and Topalidis’s composition was named “Island Voyage.”
Hauck Scholarship
Eighth grader Angella Zong was awarded a Hauck Scholarship that will be applied to the 2025-2026 school year.
Power of the Pen
The Power of the Pen seventh grade team placed fourth in the regional competition and second in the district. Seventh graders Greta Hauser and Zayna Ansari and eighth grader Elle Testerman placed in the top 12 writers in the district. Testerman’s second round story, “Cry Me a River,” was picked as Best of the Round, and fellow eighth grader Aly Trevino’s first round story “The Bargain” was picked for the Director’s Choice award. Testerman’s and Trevino’s works will be published in the 2025 Book of Winners.

“The Middle School English department is so proud of the work our writers are doing this year,” Middle School English teacher Laura Clemens said. “Our students frequently write stories, poems, essays, and personal narratives in their classes, and through this consistent practice, develop strong writing skills and unique voices.”
Congratulations, Stingers!
