Lotspeich Second Grade Creates Jessi Raulet-inspired Hearts

Second graders in Lotspeich art teacher Sarah Hyland’s class learned how to recreate Jessi Raulet’s colorful heart design through a mixed media piece.

Students used acrylic paints and a squeegee to make their background, tempura paint sticks for the broad lines in their hearts, and paint markers to add finer details.

Hyland said Raulet’s bright and vibrant art is a great introduction for students to begin to analyze how artists use colors to express different emotions or goals — such as joy or hope.
