Improvising in Sixth Grade Theater
April 7, 2026
Middle School drama teacher Jacob Hauser introduced sixth graders to a new game called “Bang the Bucket.”
A student pair start a scene on stage with a given location or relationship. From there, the students must improvise a scene by giving it a conflict and fleshing out their characters/relationships. Whenever Hauser bangs (more of a tap) his metal bucket, the last student who spoke must change what they said.
The game teaches students how to quickly pivot during a scene, which also strengthens their creative and analytical thinking skills.
