First Grade Field Trip to Drake Planetarium 

In late January, Lotspeich first graders visited the Drake Planetarium to kick off their new unit on the Earth, moon, and sun.

“While we were at the Drake Planetarium, students embarked on a journey through space to explore the relationships between the sun, Earth, and moon, and learn about other objects in our solar system,” Lower School science teacher Lauren Fisher said. 

A live star instructor used the Planetarium’s dome to show Earth’s orbit, the moon’s phases, and how interactions cause day, night, and lunar cycles. 

Students were then guided through a virtual tour of the solar system, where they learned about other planets and got to see Mars’ volcanoes and Venus’ thick clouds.
