ECC Learns About Construction

October 6, 2025

In September, the entire Early Childhood Center gathered near the tennis courts to meet construction workers from HGC and watch concrete being poured.

Our youngest Stingers loved learning about the different equipment HGC is using to build the ECC extension, and they were shocked to hear the workers woke up at 3:30 a.m. to pour concrete.

“We have about an hour and a half from the time the cement, water, sand, and aggregate go into the mixer to when we can’t pour it anymore, so it’s a very fast and time-sensitive process,” Daniel Bonacci, a project manager with HGC, explained.

According to Director of the ECC Nichole O’Rourke, the on-site field trip was a great opportunity for students because construction is a natural draw for children of all ages.

“The trucks, the tools, the bright colors, and the sounds have children glued to fences and windows to see, feel, and hear what is happening,” O’Rourke said. “Children have been hearing everything about our new school, and this on-site field trip gave children a hands-on opportunity to explore what they have been observing from afar, supporting inquiry-based and real-world learning. HGC shared age-appropriate insights about materials, safety gear, and even inspired early thinking about future careers—all in a way that made learning meaningful and fun.”
