Writing Workshop Students Write Letters to Senior Citizens

This semester, sixth-graders in Bill Waskowitz’s writing workshop class are writing letters to seniors living at the Kenwood Star, a senior living residence in Cincinnati. During a recent class, students watched a news video about seniors and their families affected by current COVID-19 visitation restrictions for nursing homes and care facilities. Waskowitz asked the class to break out into groups for a writing exercise centered around the video. Students made lists of the positive and negatives things they saw in the video and shared them with their classmates. For their first letter to seniors, students wrote about a special memory or a good time to share with their new pen pals.
