By providing students with a wide range of choices and opportunities, we encourage them to explore all the possibilities on their journey toward discovering who they are and what they want to be.
A Balanced Approach
Each Seven Hills student has unique gifts. Here, our expert instructors leverage each student’s natural talents and curiosities to cultivate skills that set them up for success in college and beyond. Through a deliberate balance of academics and extracurricular activities, Seven Hills students don’t just learn—they experience things in a way that allows them to take risks, explore new paths, and embark on a lifelong educational journey.
early childhood and Lower School
(Pre-Kindergarten for 2-Year-oLDS THROUGH Grade 5)
Starting in early childhood , students explore broad and distinctive academic and specials programs that give them the chance to try new things and gain new insights. Classes in the arts, world language, and physical education give our youngest students a wide range of new perspectives. At this age, we gear every learning opportunity to the unique and emerging interests of our students through our creative, interactive, and activity-based approach. They explore inquiry and innovation in our makerspaces, learning to think conceptually and to ask as many “what-ifs” as they can. They form hypotheses and conduct experiments in outdoor laboratories. They work on becoming emotionally self-aware, learning how to stay in touch with how they feel and what they enjoy. Wherever their interests may lie, our Lower School students get the chance to try it all, enjoying every step along the way.
Middle School (Grades 6 Through 8)
As students become more self-aware in Middle School, we encourage them to cultivate their unique interests by participating in a broad spectrum of after-school clubs, activities, and athletics. This gives them the opportunity to take a deeper dive in what they enjoy outside of the classroom. Because we view Middle School as the beginning of a more self-propelled journey, our skills-oriented curriculum gives students complex and interesting challenges to tackle. They are given the freedom to explore these complexities in ways that honor their intellect and celebrate their individuality. With a diverse array of extracurricular options, students can choose what they want to learn about in interesting and fulfilling ways. Whether they’re putting their creativity and design skills to the test in our Innovation Lab, leading a peer discussion group on a book of their choice, or “purchasing” and monitoring stocks on the stock market, Middle School students take the reins of their education, learning actively rather than just absorbing information.
Upper School (Grades 9 through 12)
In Upper School, students have the opportunity to focus on what they love and hone their skills. The experience is meant to help students find out what they’re made of and what makes them happy. Students take on greater responsibility and start to make their own way and express their individuality, whether on a stage, on a field, or behind a microscope. They gain new freedoms and responsibilities each year, having the ability to choose their electives, take Advanced Placement courses, design independent studies, and even declare Concentrations. Through our Experiential Learning program, students can develop their interests, pay attention to their strengths, and show us what they’ve got. Every Upper School student completes a yearlong Personal Challenge project, a self-designed, in-depth exploration of any topic they choose. As they prepare for college, we want to give all of our students the resources and opportunities they need to showcase their talents and work on them as much as they want.
Through class meetings, advisory, and guidance programs, our students are encouraged to reflect on their new experiences. Add to that our signature four-year college counseling program, and our students have the tools they need to succeed.
Woven throughout our entire curriculum, our Signature Programs represent a distinctive and innovative approach to education that engages and motivates students through unique learning opportunities and experiences. At every age, students are diving deeper in their interests, honing their critical and creative thinking skills, and discovering more about themselves and the world around them.
