Third-graders Create Adverb Sandwiches

Third-graders in Rebecca Harnage’s class studied adverbs in a tasty way — by creating adverb sandwiches, a lesson created by third-grade teacher Kim Walden! Students used construction paper to create a sandwich, with each part of the sandwich having a different sentence written on it. Students used a variety of adverbs to modify each sentence. “We are studying parts of speech to enhance our vocabulary and build our writing skills,” Harnage said. “More specifically, we’re learning how more complex sentences are built, and the ingredients that go into these sentences. Learning these words can be difficult, so we decided to jazz it up with something all third-graders could connect with… food!”
