Students Take a “Day On, Not Off”

Continuing a Middle School tradition, several Seven Hills students, families, and faculty volunteered at Matthew 25: Ministries in Blue Ash on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day Seven Hills was closed for observance of the national holiday. For the eighth year in a row, our student and family volunteers from all divisions spent a “Day On, Not Off,” helping sort clothes and working around Matthew 25. Students helped the community and learned the values of kindness and empathy embodied by Dr. King. The volunteer effort was spearheaded by Jacky Kalubi, Middle School French teacher and Upper School French and Spanish teacher, and Head of Middle School Bill Waskowitz. The goal of the “Day On, Not Off” is for students and families to have an opportunity to give back and bring Dr. King’s message of serving your community front and center. “It was a well-attended event,” Kalubi said. “I would estimate close to 100 members of our Seven Hills community volunteered, including siblings that attend other schools, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, former employees, and alumni.” Waskowitz added, “This was the largest turnout we have had!”
