Speaker Gives Lesson in Finance 101

As part of their yearlong participation in the Stock Market Game, seventh-graders recently got a lesson in finance and the stock market. Nathan Bachrach, parent of Seven Hills alumnus Micah Bachrach ’17, a local financial advisor, financial news correspondent for Fox19, radio personality, and columnist, spoke to students about a host of financial topics. Bachrach taught students about the companies that make up financial services company Standard and Poor’s, the different types of investing and how people invest, and important vocabulary related to finances and the stock market. “We wanted to give the kids a little education in finance 101,” said math teacher Carri Haskins, who coordinates the Stock Market Game with history teacher Doug Huff. Throughout the year, seventh-graders participate in the intensive Stock Market Game, combining history and math to invest virtual money in stocks and compete against students across the country.
