Sixth-graders Put Latin in a Historical Context

On their second day of Latin class in the new semester, sixth-graders completed a lesson with an interactive approach to world history. Middle and Upper School Latin teacher Marcie Handler asked students to use their knowledge of world history to put 26 different historical events in order. The events ranged from the building of the pyramids of Egypt to the founding of Seven Hills. After making their guesses, students looked up the actual dates of the events and wrote them on cards representing each piece of history. The cards were hung up and their timeline will be displayed in the class room throughout the year. Handler said the lesson tested what students knew about world history and also “put the Latin language in a historical context.”
