Sixth-grade Writing Workshop Illustrate Children’s Books, Write Haikus

Megan Whitt’s sixth-grade writing workshop recently wrote and illustrated their own children’s books. They had the opportunity to share their work with an audience of children’s books experts—pre-kindergarten students in Lotspeich’s Early Childhood Center. “It was so much fun,” Whitt said. “Everyone enjoyed it.” Whitt’s class also celebrated National Poetry Month, which takes place in April, by writing haikus and decorating the campus with their words. “Sixth-graders wrote 10 haiku poems on any subject and selected their three favorite to write in chalk on the patio in the Middle School area,” Whitt said.
