Seventh-graders Finish Third in Stock Market Game

Throughout the school year, seventh-grade history teacher Doug Huff and seventh-grade math teacher Carri Haskins team taught a cross-curricular, hands-on simulation of the stock market. As they played the Stock Market game, students learned how to manage a virtual stock portfolio with real data while competing against area schools. The team with the highest portfolio value were named the winners. The Seven Hills team of Susie Stahl, Dhanush Bearelley, and Nick Cohen finished first in the state in the middle school category of the Stock Market Game. The students advanced to the Stock Market Game Portfolio Challenge at the University of Cincinnati, presenting their investment strategies to judges for an opportunity to win a visit to New York City. Overall, the Seven Hills team finished third, placing behind two high school teams. “The team performed very well and was the top middle school team,” Huff said.
