Seventh-graders Design Board Games for Kindergarteners
Seventh-graders took a new approach to Design Thinking projects this semester. In the past, Design Thinking students would find a real-world problem and work in the Innovation Lab to develop a prototype to solve it. “This semester, seventh-graders were asked to design educational board games for the kindergarten students in the Early Childhood Center,” said teacher Karen Glum. “Kindergarten families offered to playtest games and provide feedback.” Earlier in the year, students observed kindergarteners as they played and asked them questions about the games. “A key component of Design Thinking is empathy,” Glum said. “It was important for students to understand the types of games kindergarteners enjoy playing and how they play.” Students will present their work to a panel of evaluators, including teachers and professionals from around the Cincinnati community, on Jan. 10.
