Seven Hills School Theater Students Claim Eight Cappies Nominations
High school theater students at The Seven Hills School recently claimed eight Cappies nominations, including “Best Musical,” for their recent performance of the musical Nice Work if You Can Get It. The students’ portrayal of the social dichotomies of the prohibition-era earned them the opportunity to perform an excerpt of the musical at the Aronoff Center on May 22.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious recognition for our students’ tireless efforts and hard work on and off the stage,” said High school theater teacher Stephanie Park. “It is an honor to receive eight Cappies nominations, including Best Musical, and we are looking forward to performing on stage at the Aronoff.” The Aronoff performance will take place during the Cappies gala, during which winners will be announced. The Greater Cincinnati Cappies began in January, 2002, in cooperation with the theater teachers from Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and with media support from the Cincinnati Enquirer and CityBeat.
The purpose of the Cappies is to enhance long-term growth of theater and the performing arts within Cincinnati by celebrating, promoting and improving theater at the high school level. Cappies provides outreach within the high school theater community, with trainings, rewards and recognitions for High School Theater students. Through the Cappies, high school student critics attend and review each other’s shows, publish their reviews in local newspapers, and participate in a year-end, Tonys®-style Gala.
