Roman Street Treats

Seventh-grade Latin students learned about the movement of immigrants and refugees into Rome from the far reaches of the Roman empire in a unique and delicious way. “Because Rome managed such a huge empire, its army focused on building and maintaining a well-engineered and long-lasting system of roads,” said Latin teacher Katie Swinford. “We looked at the network of roads that led to Rome, hence the saying ‘All roads lead to Rome.’” They also studied how the Roman army built roads, some of which are still in use in the world today! This culminated in the students building model Roman roads out of candy and cookies.
