Pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds Class Celebrates Black History Month

February was Black History Month, and students in the Beginnings pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds class celebrated with a multitiered lesson. Amaris White, a Beginnings parent and Seven Hills Upper School learning support specialist, read a story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the class listened to an array of music, ranging from rock ‘n roll pioneer Chuck Berry to African drums. White also created a collage for a quilt wall, which featured famous black Americans, including Michelle and Barack Obama, and Ida B. Wells. Visiting award-winning scientistBarbara James also played traditional songs and told a West African folk story about Anansi, a spirit who often takes the form of a man and spider.
