Parading Ozobots

In the spirit of the season, Unit II Students recently incorporated a model of the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade using Ozobots, small robots used in educational settings that teachers use to show students how to code and design. Unit II teacher Julie Guminey said students prepared for the lesson by reading the book, “Balloons Over Broadway,” which tells the story of Tony Sarg, the puppeteer who invented the popular helium balloons used in large-scale parades. “The students also discussed the behind-the-scenes work of the parade and the planning that goes into it before it is televised,” said Guminey. The students also designed a path with codes for the ozobots to follow, chose a favorite character, and designed a balloon for their own version of a robot balloon parade.
