Middle School Instrumentalists Wow at Winter Performance
Family, friends, faculty, and staff enjoyed an afternoon of instrumental music featuring Middle School instrumentalists. Under the direction of instrumental teacher John Rising, students performed a wonderful program. Sixth-graders opened the show with a selection of songs that included “Samba LaBamba,” “Latin Fiesta,” and “Kickstart.” Seventh-graders performed some modern hits, including “Heathens” by the band twenty one pilots, a medley of songs from the film “Black Panther,” and the theme music for “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Eighth-graders closed out the afternoon with the rhythmically complex “Fury” and “Blue Ridge Reel,” as well as the funky “Augustus Gloop.” Sue Bone, Middle School physical education teacher who plays clarinet with the ensemble, had a surprise for Rising, leading the eighth-graders in the song “Happy Birthday” for their teacher. Rising thanked the audience and musicians, and told the audience that the concert was the last in Founders Hall. In the spring, students are expected to perform in the new Schiff Center.
