Middle and Upper School Students Compete in OJCL Convention*

Twenty-one eighth- through 12th-grade Latin students recently competed at the 68th annual Ohio Junior Classical League convention in Columbus. Every student delegate from Seven Hills placed top ten in the state in one or more events. Out of 25 schools in attendance, Seven Hills finished:

  • Third in Academic per capita (second year in a row)
  • Eighth in Overall per capita
  • Eighth in Overall Sweepstakes
  • Ninth in Certamen Novice Level (eighth-graders: Sarah Croog, Jack Fechter, Suhani Gupta, Robby Ligeralde)
  • Fourth in Certamen Intermediate Level (eighth-grader: Jenny Hu, 9th graders: Alex Frohn, Daniel Goldfeder, Luke Malloy, Laxmi Namboodiri)
  • Fourth in Certamen Upper Level (10th graders: Alex Grass, Kyle Plush, Kevin Wang, 12th grader: Charlie Dwight)
  • The club banner received a superior rating for its twist on the convention theme (audentes fortuna iuvat, “fortune favors the bold”).

Out of over 500 student delegates, senior Charlie Dwight was invited to give the opening remarks at the final assembly of all delegates. He won the following overall honors: fifth place in the state in Overall Academic Points and ninth place in overall points earned. This was Charlie’s 10th Latin convention, which includes six in Ohio and four nationals.
