Librarian Teaches Students Importance of Online Safety

Lotspeich librarian Lori Suffield teaches her students the importance of digital citizenship and being responsible online. She said media and digital literacy are an “integral part of the library curriculum.” In a recent lesson, students learned how to create strong passwords for online accounts, such as email. Via Zoom, students took part in an interactive quiz. Suffield asked students multiple-choice questions about password strength and students logged their answers in the game. “When we began distance learning, I knew it would be important to revisit topics that we had introduced earlier this year,” Suffield said. “This includes sharing information on digital platforms in a kind, safe way, checking the accuracy of information seen online, and keeping personal information safe. Creating strong passwords, is one part of personal internet safety.”
