Kindness Retreat

Seven Hills teamed up with Youth Frontiers in February to host the Kindness Retreat, a special daylong retreat for fifth-graders on the Hillsdale and Doherty campuses. Students participated in this character-building retreat, which inspires students to live out the values of kindness, courage, respect, and leadership in their personal and school lives. Lotspeich school counselor and chair of Seven Hills’ counseling department Judy Arnold said faculty are consistently impressed with the work Youth Frontiers does during the retreat. “The facilitators are outstanding and quickly connect with our fifth-graders,” she said. “Our goal is to empower the kids in Doherty and Lotspeich fifth grade to develop the kind of community they will enjoy being a part of moving on to Middle School.” Upper School students got involved as well, acting as leaders throughout the day. Students participated in many activities during the retreat, which helped bring them closer together as a community. “The mix of fun and serious interaction during the daylong program strikes just the right note with students this age,” Arnold said. “Youth Frontiers also provides follow-up curriculum materials to keep the message relevant. This day is truly a highlight of fifth grade.”
