Fourth-graders Study Simple Machines at Green Acres

Fourth-graders recently learned about simple machines. To bring the lesson to life, they visited Green Acres in Indian Hill. “This field trip supports and expands the knowledge that they have gained during Science class,” said fourth-grade teacher Sara Snyder. “We were able to learn about simple machines in a hands-on way and use many farming tools.” Students learned how to split wood to make shingles using a froe and maul, and used other simple machines like an auger and pulley. “They even got to see a Rube Goldberg machine that had many of the simple machines that we were studying incorporated in the workings of the machine!” Snyder said.
