Fourth-graders Connect the Blocks

Fourth-graders in Liz Lorenz’s Project Math class’s yearlong study of city planning culminated with the creation of a movie to document their work. Throughout the year, students simulated the development of the four-block region about Fort Washington Way. For the project, they learned about city development from local experts and created scale models of their designs, which featured businesses they thought would be the best fit for the space, using CAD (computer-aided design) software to make 2-D models. Students 3-D printed their buildings as well. Lorenz said they created videos about their plans. “Students helped create an iMovie documenting their work with the project and sharing sample build and design ideas,” Lorenz said. “They helped explain each step of the project and did voice-overs to pictures and work samples in the movie.”
