First-graders Study Phonics

First-grade teacher Aimee Burton introduces phonics in a fun way to her students. Throughout the year, students learn the sounds different groups of letters make. Recently, they studied the “oo” sound with an interactive activity called word lines. Burton gave the students two letters, in this case “s” and “n,” and had them guess the full word that would feature the “oo” sound and write it on their papers. After a couple of good guesses, Burton said the word was “snoop.” Students also learned the definition of the word.
