Lotspeich students in first through fifth grade enjoyed a special Everybody Counts Assembly in mid-December. Janet Smith, program director for the Hamilton County Special Olympics, and athletes Kassey Willis and Kim Schobert talked about the history of the Special Olympics, which was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver and came to Hamilton County in the 1970s. “We want to make sure that anybody who wants to participate in a sport can participate in a sport,” Smith said. Willis and Schobert told students about the many different sports they participate in through the organization. Schobert has also had the opportunity to travel to Seattle, Washington, to participate in national games.
