English Class Expands Understanding of August Wilson’s Work

At the end of third quarter, students in English 12 concluded their work with playwright August Wilson’s “Fences” by completing self-designed projects. “These projects allowed them to both expand their understanding of the play and share with their peers an original creation inspired by the text,” said English teacher Nate Gleiner. “Some examples of the myriad projects included Patrick Kilcoyne’s interpretive sculpture, Emma Bushman’s compositions for flute and cello, inspired by individual characters, Michael Weirich’s six-course meal, with each dish representing a character’s developmental arc, and Charles Clark’s digital set design.
