City Sustainability Employee Speaks to Fifth Grade

Fifth-graders in Liz Lorenz’s Project Math class recently learned about sustainability from Liz Congleton, sustainability programs outreach coordinator for the city of Cincinnati. This year, students are focusing on water, studying the subject in science, language arts, and Project Math classes. In Lorenz’s classroom, students are completing a variety of activities focused on clean water, water access, and other related environmental sustainability issues. Congleton talked about Cincinnati’s current environmental challenges and the impacts they have on the city’s budget and finances. “During the presentation, Ms. Congleton and the students focused on the issue of food waste and creative ways various local, national, and global organizations are handling it,” Lorenz said. “Students will use this information to guide their thinking and work throughout their collaborative project.”
