Chinese New Year

Upper School students in Mia Wu and Nanyue Zue’s Chinese class recently participated in a Chinese New Year celebration that also served as a cooking and cultural lesson. As part of the Chinese language class tradition, teachers Wu and Zhu hosted a Chinese dumpling cooking lesson in the Upper School teachers’ lounge in late January as part of the Chinese New Year celebration. Students worked together through an assembly line of sorts, in which some students cut the dumplings and others wrapped them. Contents of the dumplings ranged from vegetarian to pork and beef. Wu said she enjoys observing students enjoying the aroma of dumplings throughout the school. “Nanyue and I want the students to understand the different cultures and be open-minded to celebrations all over the world,” said Wu. “Chinese New Year is about being happy.”
