The ninth graders were introduced to the Upper School’s Service Learning program with the Ninth Grade Day of Service on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Students donated their time and energy to make a difference with seven different nonprofit organizations throughout Greater Cincinnati.
From decorating for a Halloween party for residents of St. Joseph Home, to helping shoppers get what they need at the Catino Food Pantry, students served their community well.
“Our big hope is that students come to see themselves as members of a community or multiple, overlapping communities,” said Upper School Dean of Students Dan Polifka.
“We did an exercise before the day asking students to think about various communities they’re a part of and consider ways in which they give to and receive from them,” he said.
As part of the Upper School’s graduation requirements, students must complete at least 30 volunteer service hours with the goal of leaving their local and global communities better than they found them and leaving Seven Hills with a better understanding of themselves and the world.
