Fifth Grade Begins Mini Golf Unit
October 6, 2025
In late September, fifth graders traveled to ACRES mini golf to gain hands-on experience before they design their own mini golf course in Project Math.
Fifth graders Luke Copfer and Meredith Roe shared what they learned and enjoyed about the field trip.

“We went to practice measuring and doing area and perimeter,” Copfer said. “There were so many shapes, and it showed me like, ‘Wow! There are a lot of different ways you can make [a mini golf course.’”
Roe said there were a lot of cool setups throughout ACRES that inspired her.

“There weren’t too many obstacles, but it was still hard,” Roe said. “Going [to a mini golf course] actually helped me a lot with this project.”

Now, students will use the data and inspiration they gathered to begin workshopping different layouts for their courses. In the coming weeks, fifth graders will begin construction using cardboard, pipe cleaners, construction paper, and paper plates, to name a few of the potential materials they’ll use.

Students will finalize their mini golf courses before Winter Break. Once finished, fifth graders will invite their fellow Lotspeich students to play their courses.
