Girls Gymnastics

Our Philosophy

Aligned with Seven Hills’ full-participation athletics philosophy, our gymnastics program welcomes any athlete who wishes to play the sport, and is deeply committed to help each student athlete achieve her athletic goals and reach her fullest potential. Our goal as coaches is to inspire a love of the sport, and to encourage athletes to challenge themselves to reach the next level.

Our coaches are role models, cultivating a challenging, competitive environment in which the ideals of respect, personal integrity, and character development are stressed. While gymnastics focuses on individual performances, the close-knit camaraderie of our athletes creates bonds of support and friendship — and individual players become a committed band of loyal teammates. For us, the success of the season is measured by the memories made as much as by the record of the team.

It’s my goal to coach each season with the same approach. My athletes understand that we do not compare our current season to the past. We don’t focus on our successes or the challenges that we may have faced in the past, but instead always start each new season from scratch. In the first few weeks of practice, we focus on drills and the fundamentals of gymnastics, which will help our gymnast when it is time for competition. The gymnastics coaching team works with each athlete, according to her level of skill, to prepare for the season. Even though gymnastics is an individual sport, I always stress the importance of the team as a whole. The Seven Hills gymnastics program is comprised of a dedicated group of athletes who support each other for the betterment of the team. Our athletes understand that focusing their efforts on improving their own scores, not comparing themselves to others, will lead to the team’s success. With nearly three decades of coaching experience, I still enjoy coming to practice every day. Seeing our athletes personally grow throughout their high school careers and learning to love their sport keeps me coming back, year after year.

At Seven Hills, good sportsmanship is the overarching theme for our athletics program. I enjoy coaching many multi-sport athletes who will make friendships that will last throughout a lifetime. I think perseverance is a strong quality in my athletes. They are always trying to improve on their performances and strive to be better every season.
