Art, Music, and Spanish Building Dedicated to Former Teacher
An always-bustling building on the Hillsdale Campus recently received a very special name. On Aug. 24, the Lotspeich art, music, and Spanish building was named the Ingeborg R. Meckel Center for Language and Fine Arts, a tribute to former teacher Ingeborg Meckel, fondly known as Frau Meckel. Accompanied by music teacher Robin Wilson, the gathered crowd of Lotspeich students and faculty sang Give a Cheer for Lotspeich to start the festivities. Head of School Chris Garten shared words about Meckel’s impact at Seven Hills, starting when she came to the school in 1967 as a German teacher. She would travel with groups of students to Europe to share her love of language and culture. “We have a great deal of love and affection for Frau Meckel,” Garten said. Head of Lotspeich Carolyn Fox worked with Meckel during her tenure. “We have really fond memories of Frau Meckel,” she added. Meckel’s son, Tim Meckel ’77, who attended Seven Hills starting in pre-kindergarten, also spoke. “Thank you so much,” he told students and faculty. “We hope you enjoy future classes.” Tim Meckel was joined at the ceremony by his children Caroline, Stephanie, and Andrew, as well as his cousin Kara and her son, William. The family enjoyed a tour of the building after the dedication.
