Algebra 1A Students Finish Unit with Project

Stacy Wilson’s Algebra 1A students recently completed an extensive unit on surface area and volume with a 3-D creation project. Using items found around their homes, students were asked to create a recognizable figure. For example, one student created a dog out of some cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls while another student made a llama and another a gingerbread house. “The students worked on connecting the idea of volume in three dimensions and surface area in two dimensions while also practicing taking measurements and performing calculations,” Wilson said. “The project allowed students to inject their creativity and innovation while still showing off their ability to handle multi-step calculations.”
