The enhancing learning through technology school
At Seven Hills, technology comprises an essential tool for learning, a crucial means to explore the world, to gather data, and to foster self-expression and creativity.
Supported by laptops, PDA’s and a wireless campus, our students use extended online resources to conduct research, both individually and in collaborative teams. They use multimedia to design and present supporting materials and to enliven oral presentations.
Across the curriculum, from English and the arts to science and math, our students utilize technology to enhance their learning experience. During an American poetry unit, they learn Garage Band audio editing software to record narrations of their chosen poem. Then, using iTunes, Garage Band, and iMovie, they create digital poetry, incorporating spoken narration, musical accompaniment, and illustrative images and video. The final project is then compressed into QuickTime format, burned to DVD, and uploaded to the web.
Many classes use wikis and blogs to front-load inquiry or to extend discourse beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Many of our classes use Skype and other similar technologies to put students in touch with experts in the field they are studying or to expose them to different points of view. Math and science students employ sophisticated software to create simulations and to facilitate data collection and analysis.
Across all disciplines, we harness technology to make learning authentic and immediate and to provide students with the tools they need for complex, meaningful problem solving.
