The guided to succeed school
Our licensed guidance counselors and academic support team play an integral role in each Seven Hills student’s life. Our guidance and support teachers provide our teachers with the information they need to guide students toward productive learning.
Beginning in pre-Kindergarten, our counselors work with each grade level, introducing topics such as building friendships, resolving conflict, handling stress, managing their time, making good choices, and understanding their individual learning style. Lessons might include reading and discussing stories that touch on age-appropriate issues, role playing, and goal setting. Some days we hold a class meeting to discuss an issue that arose at recess or during lunch.
In addition to the formal guidance curriculum, our counselors provide consultation to parents on educational and developmental issues. We also conduct formal presentations to parent groups on topics of particular relevance, from cyber safety to early childhood development and study skills to how to teach children not to be bystanders when they witness wrongdoing. In addition, they coordinate the efforts of the academic support team, including math and reading specialists.
In consultation with teachers and specialists, our counselors write educational plans for students who might need extra support, and they consult closely with each classroom teacher so they can best work with the student and help him thrive. In short, the counseling staff works with our faculty and parents to ensure your child’s experience is as comfortable and rewarding as it can be.
